Four-Week Series on the Foundations of Somatic Awareness
Service Description
When you move through your day or any given experience how often are you -- in real-time-- curious with regard to what’s happening internally and externally? Do you find yourself noticing and naming sensations? Do you think of their impacts on your body and mind? With all of this information what do you do next? This workshop will utilize yoga asana (movement) as the primary stimulus to deepen one’s somatic awareness while also inspiring individual choice. This series will focus on the foundations of Somatic Awareness: interoception, exteroception and proprioception. We will be utilizing various techniques to facilitate and deepen one’s awareness such as yoga asana, breathwork, and sound therapy. In the fourth and final session, participants will be encouraged to gather what they are receiving from internal and external stimuli and apply that knowledge to move with confidence and freedom. About your guide: Alicia is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Yoga Teacher specializing in the treatment of anxiety, depression and trauma. She primarily works with adults and especially enjoys supporting POC and members of LGBTQ+ community. In all aspects of her work, clinical or otherwise, Alicia is passionate about integrating holistic and somatic approaches as a way to deepen one's connection with oneself.
